PM Modi Leaves for the US: Summit with Quad and Address at the United Nations General Assembly

Summit
PM Modi departs for the US to attend the Quad Summit hosted by President Biden and address the UN General Assembly's 'Summit of the Future.' His visit includes meetings with business leaders and the Indian diaspora, focusing on strengthening India-US ties in technology, defense, and global diplomacy.

PM Modi started his three-day sojourn to the United States, where he is scheduled to attend the Quad Summit hosted by President Biden, as well as speak at the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The visit embodies the increasingly important role India is playing globally and in diplomacy in particular, with the Quad Leaders’ Summit and multilateral discussions at the UN at its center.

Modi In U.S: Quad Leaders Summit 2024

On 21 September Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend the sixth Quad Leaders’ Summit, being hosted by  President Biden at  Wilmington, Delaware. The Quad Summit is one of the most important diplomatic forums bringing together four democratic nations—the  Indian, Australian, Japanese, and US governments, all aligned with a shared agenda of building a free, open, and inclusive  Indo-Pacific. This year’s agenda will review the progress thus far and set new goals for cooperation in the region.

India’s engagement with the  Quad partnership is getting firmer as PM Modi will lead the discussions that will cover issues related to economic development, security, and resilience for the Indo-Pacific region. It has indeed been a meteoric rise for the Quad since its first virtual summit in 2021; this second summit will give PM Modi an opportunity to strengthen India’s footing on global challenges – defense, technology, and healthcare.

Bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Biden

One of the major takeaways from  PM Modi’s US visit is that there will be a bilateral meeting with  President Biden. The leaders will talk about deepening India-US cooperation in important areas like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. This interaction is strategically very important since India and the US have a comprehensive global strategic partnership and are guided by democratic values of strength and shared interests in many sectors.

This relationship has thus furthered closer military, economic, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries of Prime Minister Modi and President Biden. It is noted that India and the US undertake the maximum joint military exercises, which have continued to rise in terms of scale and sophistication, indicating the robustness of this engagement. Collaboration on additional ways to take the partnership ahead would form an important part of the discussions.

Summit of the Future United Nations General Assembly

Speaks at the ‘Summit of the Future’ United Nations General Assembly on  23 September. The ‘Summit of the Future’, described by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as “a once-in-a-generation UN summit,” is a key milestone for the international community in the countdown to the UN’s 80th birthday in 2025.

The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,’  suggesting how nations should come together to work towards some of the most pressing global issues inclusively and sustainably. Modi would, therefore likely to emphasize India’s commitment towards multilateralism, peace, and development as it propels India into developing reforms at the UN which becomes more representative of the current world order. PM Modi has delivered speeches at the UNGA during the  HLW  four times before 2014, 2019, 2020 (remotely), and 2021, thus marking his presence at this year’s summit as a testament to India’s cornerstone position in world affairs.

Meeting with the Indian Diaspora and US Business Leaders

PM Modi will, during his visit, engage with the Indian community in New York on  September 22, which shall further strengthen India’s relationships with its global diaspora. The Indian community in the US is a deep-rooted player in developing cross-cultural and economic relations between the two nations, so Modi’s idea to meet them is more to celebrate their efforts.

This would be in addition to the public address. He is going to interact with  CEOs of top US-based companies to enhance synergies between industries in India and the US. Both India and the US would probably focus on such areas as AI, biotechnology, semiconductors, quantum computing, and the rest.

Narendra Modi Quad Summit 2024 is going to be a landmark moment in India’s foreign policy journey. After the announcement, India is going to host the next Quad Leaders’ Summit in 2025 as well, and their leadership in regional and global diplomacy is going to be well-rooted. India-US economic, security and technological engagement are going to shape the futures of both nations while navigating new challenges in the emerging worlds.

Quad’s Progress and the Future

Since its first virtual edition in 2021, the Quad Leaders Summit has now become a crucial venue for promoting Indo-Pacific cooperation. The next summit will present an excellent opportunity for the leaders to evaluate the progress achieved over the past year. Progress toward this end includes those in particular initiatives focused on vaccine supply, climate change, and maritime security.

According to  Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, the Quad event would offer PM Modi a chance to thank President Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for their leadership. More importantly, had this been one of the last quad engagements, perhaps it would have offered Modi a chance to pay homage to their stewardship over the building momentum of the partnership.

India will be actively involved in shaping the agenda of the Quad for tomorrow, adding to its current focus on regional development and cooperation; in this way, its stature in international affairs will be promoted further.

The visit of PM Modi to the United States reflects the increasing significance of India in the landscape of international diplomacy. Platforms like the Quad Summit and the UN General Assembly provide critical opportunities for discussing multilateral solutions to global challenges. As India-US relations continue to strengthen in various sectors, this visit is likely to have lasting implications for both nations and the broader international community.
